Heaven in the Quran is Rivendell.

No, there are no 72 virgin maids in Heaven awaiting muslims. That old wives’ tale got passed down throughout time and somehow got into the ears of Fox News. Stick with my blog, and you will never see it once in the Quran mentioned.

Many people would be excited to know the description of heaven is very much a physical earthly place with pure beings as companions. It is the next level up in living life on earth. Just as the High Elves were older and wiser than mankind on Middle Earth in Tolkein’s Lord of the Rings, so will we be in the state of heavenly bliss.

While reading the parts about Heaven, I remember tears forming in my eyes as I thought that it sounded like the perfect resting place for my weary mind and body after life:

And give good tidings to those who believe and do righteous deeds that they will have gardens [in Paradise] beneath which rivers flow. Whenever they are provided with a provision of fruit therefrom, they will say, “This is what we were provided with before.” And it is given to them in likeness. And they will have therein purified spouses, and they will abide therein eternally.

And as you can see it will be human souls surrounded by beautiful and pure beings who are also companions of the light of God. This could be your loved ones or it could be new friends you may meet who also joined union with God in the past and present…

Shall I inform you of something better than that? For those who keep from evil, with their Lord, are Gardens underneath which rivers flow wherein they will abide, and pure companions, and contentment from God. God is Seer of His servants.

Why rivers and water in an earthly paradise? Because symbolically and physically water is the element to soothe, heal and rejuvenate. It is the opposite energy of fire and it is the bringer of life. All life stemmed from water and evolved first from it we are told in the Quran:

And the coming back to water to rest in peace is symbolic to show the soul completion and full cycle attained. Now the believers may rest and soothe their souls. While those with burning still of regret, pain, and suffering will experience the element of fire that keeps them moving, spiritually.

And the companions of the Fire will call to the companions of Paradise, “Pour upon us some water or from whatever God has provided you.” They will say, “Indeed, God has forbidden them both to the disbelievers.”

If you work through your issues, be a good person and not die in regret of doing wrong to others-you will finally have peace and waters flowing….

God will say, “This is the Day when the truthful will benefit from their truthfulness.” For them are gardens [in Paradise] beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, God being pleased with them, and they with Him. That is the great attainment.
