I have come to see that the ancient texts are trials for the soul, they reflect what state of mind we are in as we read them. How we process the information given to us shows a lot of what kind of person we are because you filter information through your own personal perspectives and experiences.
A person who is full of hate, will see the religious texts to tell them to hate others. A person who belongs to a male dominated culture will see the words as a way to dominate women. A terrorist will see these texts as a command to put terror in hearts. A racist will see the verses speaking about their superiority.
If you never read them, this shows also too that you are a person who is not a seeker of God or any information outside the self, which can show a bit of selfishness or the ego identification leaning. You have avoided the tests, and you have also avoided the deeper learnings. You may be required to find another way to find and understand God, now.
But a loving seeker who loves God and others, will see the texts as glad tidings to them and to others because they have been patient, good, and love God. These are the people of Understanding that know that God is LOVE.
It is He who has sent down to you, [O Muhammad], the Book; in it are verses [that are] precise – they are the foundation of the Book – and others unspecific. As for those in whose hearts is deviation [from truth], they will follow that of it which is unspecific, seeking discord and seeking an interpretation [suitable to them]. And no one knows its [true] interpretation except Allah . But those firm in knowledge say, “We believe in it. All [of it] is from our Lord.” And no one will be reminded except those of understanding.
