Surah Yunus: Chapter 10 (line 70-80) Jonah

70. Some enjoyment in this world; then to Us is their return; then We will make them taste the severe punishment on account of their disbelief.

71. And relate to them the story of Noah, when he said to his people, “O my people, if my presence among you and my reminding you of God’s signs is too much for you, then in God I have put my trust. So come to a decision, you and your partners, and do not let the matter perplex you; then carry out your decision on me, and do not hold back.”

72. “But if you turn away, I have not asked you for any wage. My wage falls only on God, and I was commanded to be of those who submit.”

73. But they denounced him, so We saved him and those with him in the Ark, and We made them successors, and We drowned those who rejected Our signs. So consider the fate of those who were warned.

74. Then, after him, We sent messengers to their people. They came to them with the clear proofs, but they would not believe in anything they had already rejected. Thus We set a seal on the hearts of the hostile.

75. Then, after them, We sent Moses and Aaron with Our proofs to Pharaoh and his dignitaries. But they acted arrogantly. They were sinful people.

76. And when the truth came to them from Us, they said, “This is clearly sorcery.”

77. Moses said, “Is this what you say of the truth when it has come to you? Is this sorcery? Sorcerers do not succeed.”

78. They said, “Did you come to us to divert us from what we found our ancestors following, and so that you become prominent in the land? We will never believe in you.”

79. Pharaoh said, “Bring me every experienced sorcerer.”

80. And when the sorcerers came, Moses said to them, “Throw whatever you have to throw.”

My interpretation:

Here Muhammad is given insight into what happened in the past. Noah was a messenger of God and was trying to warn the people to repent and start living life right. They mocked and ridiculed him and did not take heed of the warnings. So God drowned them all to create a new creation and begin again, so that life can move forwards.

The story of Moses Muhammad is being told so that he may tell the people of the great odds that Moses had to go against with the Pharaoh and his “magicians”. Moses was given the power of God to show the proof in his staff that there is a power that is greater than magic or illusion of power.

And in knowing this, Moses had no fear.

Surah Al-An’nam : Chapter 6 (line 30-40) the Livestock

30. If only you could see, when they are stationed before their Lord. He will say, “Is this not real?” They will say, “Yes indeed, by our Lord.” He will say, “Then taste the torment for having disbelieved.”

31. Losers are those who deny the encounter with God. Then, when the Hour comes upon them suddenly, they will say, “Alas for us, how we have neglected it.” And they will carry their burdens on their backs-evil is what they carry.

32. The life of this world is nothing but game and distraction, but the Home of the Hereafter is better for those who are righteous. Do you not understand?

33. We know that what they say grieves you. It is not you they reject, but it is God’s revelations that the wicked deny.

34. Other messengers before you were rejected, but they endured rejection and persecution until Our help came to them. There can be no change to God’s words. News of the Messengers has already reached you.

35. If you find their rejection hard to bear, then if you can, seek a tunnel into the earth, or a stairway into the heaven, and bring them a sign. Had God willed, He could have gathered them to guidance. So do not be of the ignorant.

36. Only those who listen will respond. As for the dead, God will resurrect them; then to Him they will be returned.

37. And they say, “If only a sign could come down to him from his Lord.” Say, “God is Able to send down a sign, but most of them do not know.”

38. There is no animal on land, nor a bird flying with its wings, but are communities like you. We neglected nothing in the Scripture. Then to their Lord they will be gathered.

39. Those who reject Our revelations are deaf and dumb, in total darkness. Whomever God wills, He leaves astray; and whomever He wills, He sets on a straight path.

40. Say, “Have you considered? if God’s punishment came upon you, or the Hour overtook you, would you call upon any other than God, if you are sincere?”

My Interpretation:

Gabriel is telling Muhammad quite sternly that he must tell the people that finding God in death only, will be too late. THIS life is the test, and the afterlife is the reward of what you created on this material realm. Just as we take tests in school to pass to a higher level of education or knowledge, why should life and death be any different? If you can’t pass the spiritual tests before you in life while alive, you fail to reap the benefits of feeling close or united back with God in death. Cause and effect.

It is very heartwarming to see the love from this angel emanating out to Muhammad in line 33. I can almost visualize the wings going around Muhammad to comfort and soothe him for his effort, while he is sad at seeing little results with the Mecca  pagans.  Here Gabriel is telling Muhammad that those who lift a face up to the sky in gratitude and resonate with his words, are shown the way for a reason that Muhammad will not fully understand, but must trust and not remain ignorant.

It is true in today’s world. Even if a sign from Heaven came down, there would be many people who would deny this sign and shove it away as a figment of imagination, mass hysteria, or worse…malicious intent. Those that see God as an enemy or non-existent will continue to see the reality as they choose. The more you open your heart and mind to the Signs of God, the more they are revealed to you. The more you open your eyes and mind to God, the more Heaven is revealed to you.

We must always be open to see the Signs

Surah Al-Baqarah: Chapter 2 (line 220-230) The Cow

220. About this world and the next. And they ask you about orphans. Say, “Improvement for them is best. And if you intermix with them, then they are your brethren.” God knows the dishonest from the honest. Had God willed, He could have overburdened you. God is Mighty and Wise.

221. Do not marry idolatresses, unless they have believed. A believing maid is better than an idolatress, even if you like her. And do not marry idolaters, unless they have believed. A believing servant is better than an idolater, even if you like him. These call to the Fire, but God calls to the Garden and to forgiveness, by His leave. He makes clear His communications to the people, that they may be mindful.

222. And they ask you about menstruation: say, “It is harmful, so keep away from women during menstruation. And do not approach them until they have become pure. Once they have become pure, approach them in the way God has directed you.” God loves the repentant, and He loves those who keep clean.”

223. Your women are cultivation for you; so approach your cultivation whenever you like, and send ahead for yourselves. And fear God, and know that you will meet Him. And give good news to the believers.

224. And do not allow your oaths in God’s name to hinder you from virtue, and righteousness, and making peace between people. God is Listener and Knower.

225. God does not hold you responsible for your unintentional oaths, but He holds you responsible for your intentions. God is Forgiving and Forbearing.

226. Those who vow abstinence from their wives must wait for four months. But if they reconcile-God is Forgiving and Merciful.

227. And if they resolve to divorce-God is Hearing and Knowing.

228. Divorced women shall wait by themselves for three periods. And it is not lawful for them to conceal what God has created in their wombs, if they believe in God and the Last Day. Meanwhile, their husbands have the better right to take them back, if they desire reconciliation. And women have rights similar to their obligations, according to what is fair. But men have a degree over them. God is Mighty and Wise.

229. Divorce is allowed twice. Then, either honorable retention, or setting free kindly. It is not lawful for you to take back anything you have given them, unless they fear that they cannot maintain God’s limits. If you fear that they cannot maintain God’s limits, then there is no blame on them if she sacrifices something for her release. These are God’s limits, so do not transgress them. Those who transgress God’s limits are the unjust.

230. If he divorces her, she shall not be lawful for him again until she has married another husband. If the latter divorces her, then there is no blame on them for reuniting, provided they think they can maintain God’s limits. These are God’s limits; He makes them clear to people who know.

My Interpretation:

We left off with Muhammad getting guidance that helping orphans is best for humanity to do. I can see this aides in our evolution. As we know children our always our next generation, so raise them right and they will become good people who will further society in a positive way. Raise children wrong and you will see the effects of it later in humanity.

Marriage to a disbeliever of God’s messages is worse than marriage of an uneducated war slave. It was not just Arabs that took slaves in as war captives, but when Islam arrived it was better to free these slaves if they were innocent and just caught up in the wars. So freeing of a maid or a slave is generally by ransoming them and also offering marriage to them. Here Gabriel  is saying that it is best to marry a slave girl than a pagan woman who believes in the false gods of Mecca. This will ensure the message of God being passed down from generation to generation.

The woman’s period is something, as a woman, I personally struggle with. Yes, it is a hurt and a “dirty” time where the egg from the body is trying to rid itself. It has been scientifically proven that sex on periods can cause infections later since the blood and linings do not fully get washed out of the body with penetration happening at this time. So this is not to say that women are “dirty” at this time, it is to say that it can cause medical issues within the body by not fully cleaning the body of the uterus lining that is shedding during the unfertilized egg. Remember God never wants to make this life harder than it already is to us. We are always being guided.

Absence from sex is permitted for the four holy months for reflection on spiritual matters, but it is said here that if sex happens Allah is merciful and understands what we do. Divorce is something that is up to the couple God says, but it is vital that the woman not be pregnant or conceal pregnancy or terminating it. Allah is aware of all we do, so righteous decisions in love and marriage is needed in order to free the soul from any guilt. Divorce is allowed twice, but not any more than that in excess to drag on a relationship that is not meant to be. We all deserve our happiness and God wished to guide us to it, and end any unnecessary suffering that we humans may cause to each other and ourselves.

There is a protection to the woman here which shows the knowledge of our sensitivity in the matters of love. God says that a man can not divorce and remarry a woman over and over again, and to stop this playing of her emotions, Gabriel tells Muhammad that a woman must be allowed to find a new husband and only after she divorces that new husband can the old one come back into her life. This must have happened a lot in these times. Women were treated like commodity and Gabriel was telling Muhammad what women really are to men-a gift, as men are a gift to us.

This is to protect her and if I may say, I am a feminist, but also I understand that woman are more fragile in ways men are not. It makes us desirable to men in order to care and protect women (it’s wired in a male’s brain when he is ready to be a father or fall in love)  and so Allah has made men stronger physically and in a non-emotional sense, which is how I can interpret that men are a “higher degree than woman”. This can mean social status in the structure they had back then.

I can see how men were the protectors and guardians of women who in turn provide a home and love that is felt on a spiritual level. Today in society woman are very independent and this is good and bad for us. We have gained an independence, but we have also gained a removal of our connection to each other as Adam and Eve at times in this modern world. Sometimes when the roles are reversed both sides are not happy. There are many interesting books on how the brain is wired in a male and a female brain, and what makes us unique from one another.

Eve was created after Adam, because God knew Adam wouldn’t feel whole without her in his life as a companion through this journey. And Eve needed Adam just as equally to thrive.

Adam-and-Eve (1)

Surah Al-Baqarah: Chapter 2 (line 210-220) The Cow

210. Are they waiting for God Himself to come to them in the shadows of the clouds, together with the angels, and thus the matter is settled? All things are returned to God.

211. Ask the Children of Israel how many clear signs We have given them. Whoever alters the blessing of God after it has come to him-God is severe in retribution.

212. Beautified is the life of this world for those who disbelieve, and they ridicule those who believe. But the righteous will be above them on the Day of Resurrection. God provides to whomever He wills without measure.

213. Humanity used to be one community; then God sent the prophets, bringing good news and giving warnings. And He sent down with them the Scripture, with the truth, to judge between people regarding their differences. But none differed over it except those who were given it-after the proofs had come to them-out of mutual envy between them. Then God guided those who believed to the truth they had disputed, in accordance with His will. God guides whom He wills to a straight path.

214. Or do you expect to enter Paradise before the example of those who came before you had reached you? Adversity and hardship had afflicted them, and they were so shaken up, that the Messenger and those who believed with him said, “When is God’s victory?” Indeed, God’s victory is near.

215. They ask you what they should give. Say, “Whatever charity you give is for the parents, and the relatives, and the orphans, and the poor, and the wayfarer. Whatever good you do, God is aware of it.

216. Fighting is ordained for you, even though you dislike it. But it may be that you dislike something while it is good for you, and it may be that you like something while it is bad for you. God knows, and you do not know.

217. They ask you about fighting during the Holy Month. Say, “Fighting during it is deplorable; but to bar others from God’s path, and to disbelieve in Him, and to prevent access to the Holy Mosque, and to expel its people from it, are more deplorable with God. And persecution is more serious than killing. They will not cease to fight you until they turn you back from your religion, if they can. Whoever among you turns back from his religion, and dies a disbeliever-those are they whose works will come to nothing, in this life, and in the Hereafter. Those are the inmates of the Fire, abiding in it forever.

218. Those who believed, and those who migrated and fought for the sake of God-those look forward to God’s mercy. God is Forgiving and Merciful.

219. They ask you about intoxicants and gambling. Say, “There is gross sin in them, and some benefits for people, but their sinfulness outweighs their benefit.” And they ask you about what they should give: say, “The surplus.” Thus God explains the revelations to you, so that you may think.

220. About this world and the next. And they ask you about orphans. Say, “Improvement for them is best. And if you intermix with them, then they are your brethren.” God knows the dishonest from the honest. Had God willed, He could have overburdened you. God is Mighty and Wise.

My Interpretation:

Archangel Gabriel is speaking to Muhammad in hurried tones that Muhammad must let the people know that inaction is a choice too, and if the people sit around waiting for a miracle, it will be too late to fight the good fight and do God’s will on earth. Then judgement of inaction will be done to the people that neglected to lift a hand to fight evil in the world. This has happened to the children of Israel where they saw the Signs and neglected them causing some to follow God and others to follow their own desires. So here Gabriel is telling Muhammad to ask them about these same Signs, in a rhetorical way.

There is also indication that the words of Moses from God, had been manipulated in some way and to understand the warning again for Islam now. Muhammad is supposed to warn others that by writing words not from God and passing it off as so, will cause major problems.

To those who disbelieve in a Creator this world seems to be all there is. So they covet, and hoard wealth and fame. They attach themselves to their egos and to the material realm of this earth making them disconnect from the spiritual. God allows for this illusion to look beautiful to those who claim there is nothing else besides this lifetime. But the true believers are grateful and found a balance between enjoying this life, but also knowing there is more to come in the hereafter. The eternal optimists are the true believers, the ones who see the sunshine through the clouds are the best of humanity is what this angel is saying.

To me this does not mean that atheists can not be good, but they will lack the imagination to experience something beyond our idea of Good, if they do not believe in the Creator of it.

213 is LIFE of this revelation to me. It is the proof of all unity of all human beings that shows ultimately how and why we were divided in order for a grand testing of souls to get back to the state we fell from. Those that do judge one messenger over another will not experience this unity and may have trouble experiencing the ALL. When you reject one prophet, but accept another, you are judging on something you know little about, but go by your subjective feelings. This is what Archangel Gabriel is teaching us not to do. He tells Muhammad to follow the guidance that we are one, and it is the righteous who will make no distinctions between God’s messengers.

The reason why the books where manipulated was out of envy for one another. Something that was in the original Torah made the Christian leaders mad enough to conspire against them and vice versa with the Jews angry at the Christians. But all these matters return to God as we are judged for our bickering and unwillingness to see the other’s side.

Once again the monopoly on Heaven is being refuted by Gabriel who says that this idea is quite ridiculous because to say that only Christians or Jews will get to Heaven doesn’t explain the faithful servants that were “muslims” before these religions came about by the churches and temples.

Muhammad sincerely asks about charity and he is told that whatever good you do on earth is noted. Take care of those who seem to have less than you, treat them as family under one God. This is the beauty of Islam reflected here.

Yes fighting is a bad thing, but there are times in life when war is warranted and so Gabriel says that you must always fight to defend the innocent from any form of oppression in life. To not fight them, is worse for humanity in the long run. Many heroes through out time sacrificed their lives for the sake of others, and Gabriel acknowledged this and said this is why fighting is good for you while they can not see the positive effects just yet. The muslims from what I understand were a peaceful group that was being targeted by Mecca leaders so they were given permission here to fight back.

Alcohol and gambling are easy pathways to sin. They can be used as benefits in having fun with friends and family. They can bring a small enjoyment to life, but most people can not contain it to just this. Gabriel knows this and warns Muhammad that it is BEST for people to not pursue these things in life as they can dull the senses and cause economic situations that are not worth the suffering. Some muslims are very strict in their no alcohol intake while others can see there are greater sins in life, than this and are careful with excessive drinking. I will let you choose your own paths…

Orphans are something that seemed to be a big problem in society in 600 A.D. So Muhammad is given guidance to treat them justly and to not use them sexually, financially, or any other ways as God and his Angels are always watching.

Surah Al-Baqarah: Chapter 2 (line 190-200) The Cow

190. And fight in the cause of God those who fight you, but do not commit aggression; God does not love the aggressors.

191. And kill them wherever you overtake them, and expel them from where they had expelled you. Oppression is more serious than murder. But do not fight them at the Sacred Mosque, unless they fight you there. If they fight you, then kill them. Such is the retribution of the disbelievers.

192. But if they cease, then God is Forgiving and Merciful.

193. And fight them until there is no oppression, and worship becomes devoted to God alone. But if they cease, then let there be no hostility except against the oppressors.

194. The sacred month for the sacred month; and sacrilege calls for retaliation. Whoever commits aggression against you, retaliate against him in the same measure as he has committed against you. And be conscious of God, and know that God is with the righteous.

195. And spend in the cause of God, and do not throw yourselves with your own hands into ruin, and be charitable. God loves the charitable.

196. And carry out the Hajj and the Umrah (pilgrimage) for God. But if you are prevented, then whatever is feasible of offerings. And do not shave your heads until the offering has reached its destination. Whoever of you is sick, or has an injury of the head, then redemption of fasting, or charity, or worship. When you are secure: whoever continues the Umrah until the Hajj, then whatever is feasible of offering. But if he lacks the means, then fasting for three days during the Hajj and seven when you have returned, making ten in all. This is for he whose household is not present at the Sacred Mosque. And remain conscious of God, and know that God is stern in retribution.

197. The Hajj is during specific months. Whoever decides to perform the Hajj-there shall be no sexual relations, nor misconduct, nor quarreling during the Hajj. And whatever good you do, God knows it. And take provisions, but the best provision is righteousness. And be mindful of Me, O people of understanding.

198. You commit no error by seeking bounty from your Lord. When you disperse from Arafat, remember God at the Sacred Landmark. And remember Him as He has guided you. Although, before that, you were of those astray.

199. Then disperse from where the people disperse, and ask God for forgiveness. God is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.

200. When you have completed your rites, remember God as you remember your parents, or even more. Among the people is he who says, “Our Lord, give us in this world,” yet he has no share in the Hereafter

My Interpretation:

Carried on from the last post, we see that this was a terrible time of war 600 yrs after Jesus. Polytheists were still murdering innocent people and attacking villages. Muhammad is being prepared by Gabriel to let him know the allowances he is given by God. There is going to be attacks on Muhammad and his peaceful muslims, since the Mecca leaders do not want to loose their wealth and their status-given to them by their “gods”. How easy for a pagan leader to call themselves divine when there are no holy books written by these deities! This is why Muhammad must harden and strengthen himself against the “disbelievers” who are and will continue to try to murder Muhammad’s growing alliance of Muslims.

Many people today take these verses for being violent commands by Muhammad. But what they fail to do is to bring history into context of the meaning. They are not understanding the historical time when monotheism was greatly warred against by the pagans in charge. Monotheism was not as popular, nor as big as polytheist worship in many parts of the world. God is prescribing self defense of the righteous because by sheer logic, if the righteous believers never fought back, today Mecca would be pagan and who knows what darker path it could have lead mankind down. When I hear about the ancient civilizations claiming blood sacrifices suffice their nature gods…I shudder to think what we would experience today, if we never received guidance from above.

As you can see in these verses clearly, Muhammad is given clear orders to only be assertive, not aggressive towards these tribes. Muhammad must never kill out of anger or revenge off their land, but if the enemy comes towards them and fights them at their mosques and sacred spaces, then it is allowed to fight back and kill them back. If they pull back their armies, then Muhammad must pull back his. It is a big responsibility to be a representative of God’s Mercy and Forgiveness, and Muhammad is given the allowance to do so.

As I try to tell people who are afraid of Islam and misunderstand it, terrorism would be a tactic of the enemies of God and the angels-not a honorable way of  war.

Charity is always mentioned and we are reminded to be aware of the needs of others, even during war time. Going to Hajj and doing the pilgrimage is important for muslims of any generation. It brings you closer to understanding Islam and purifies you in a sense. This is why the head is shaved just as the  Buddhist and Christian monks did at one point for spiritual reasons, it purifies you and helps you lose attachments to superficial beauty and earthly matters.

All muslims are called to do pilgrimage by God, BUT once again God understands your life and knows what you can do and can not do. God understands the intents and desires of a person, even if their bank account does not allow it. So here Archangel Gabriel is saying, muslims should find a way to go, but also to know that it is no sin on them if they can not. They can make up for their absence during it in other ways, such as donations, fasting for 10 days, and charities. Hajj is a time to remember what is important in life in service and worship to God.

The Hajj going by JUST the Quran states that 4 months are sacred and should be observed as so. Four months you may not fight, have sex, and be conscious of what you do. There seems to be a truce called between the polytheists and muslims at this time, and it is called for Muhammad to not fight anyone at this time of spiritual observance. My guess is that it gave each side time to think about the importance of the war and decide whether or not it is worth losing lives over.

Arafat is the mountain that people lived on and could then go down to the Kabbah to observe worship. Today it is where muslims move from to the Kabbah to sit together and pray during the pilgrimage. There is arguments about what four months are sacred. By going strictly with logic, I believe that they are the last 4 months from Ramadan, which changes every year depending on Lunar Calendar.

The reason I see this is because after such a holy month when the Quran was said to first come down in the Night of Power, it seems that 4 months after that would be needed to observe and allow for this holy time to spread to others and permeate society. To me in this Quran, pilgrimage can be done at any time during these 4 months instead of squeezing millions of muslims into a few days as it is done today. I am not so sure God prescribed a holiday, as much as a time of great reflection to take up 4 months of your year, every year. By sheer logic-this could alter a person immensely, in a good way. It could make people more reflective in nature if they needed to stop their bickering and human endeavors for four months. That is a lot of time, to think about what to do with the other 8 months and to appreciate what has been given to you already.

Surah Al-Baqarah: Chapter 2 (line 170-180) The Cow

170. And when it is said to them, “Follow what God has revealed,” they say, “We will follow what we found our ancestors following.” Even if their ancestors understood nothing, and were not guided?

171. The parable of those who disbelieve is that of someone who calls upon someone who hears nothing except screaming and yelling. Deaf, dumb, and blind-they do not understand.

172. O you who believe! Eat of the good things We have provided for you, and give thanks to God, if it is Him that you serve.

173. He has forbidden you carrion, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and what was dedicated to other than God. But if anyone is compelled, without desiring or exceeding, he commits no sin. God is Forgiving and Merciful.

174. Those who conceal what God revealed in the Book, and exchange it for a small price-those swallow nothing but fire into their bellies. And God will not speak to them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, and they will have a painful punishment.

175. It is they who exchange guidance for error, and forgiveness for punishment. But why do they insist on the Fire?

176. That is because God has revealed the Book in truth; and those who differ about the Book are in deep discord.

177. Righteousness does not consist of turning your faces towards the East and the West. But righteous is he who believes in God, and the Last Day, and the angels, and the Scripture, and the prophets. Who gives money, though dear, to near relatives, and orphans, and the needy, and the homeless, and the beggars, and for the freeing of slaves; those who perform the prayers, and pay the obligatory charity, and fulfill their promise when they promise, and patiently persevere in the face of persecution, hardship, and in the time of conflict. These are the sincere; these are the pious.

178. O you who believe! Retaliation for the murdered is ordained upon you: the free for the free, the slave for the slave, the female for the female. But if he is forgiven by his kin, then grant any reasonable demand, and pay with good will. This is a concession from your Lord, and a mercy. But whoever commits aggression after that, a painful torment awaits him.

179. There is life for you in retaliation, O people of understanding, so that you may refrain.

180. It is decreed for you: when death approaches one of you, and he leaves wealth, to make a testament in favor of the parents and the relatives, fairly and correctly-a duty upon the righteous.

My Interpretation:

Here is Archangel saying that this has been said before and the leaders of Mecca say that they will continue to follow their ancestor’s traditions even though they were not the right way. Muhammad is told to warn the pagan leaders, and leaders of other religions that by lying about Islam or concealing what was revealed to them, from the masses, will cause them to suffer in the afterlife. Fire being swallowed in their bellies to me is not a physical fire, but instead a way to say that their guilt will burn them from inside one day when the truth comes out.

Muhammad also is to give them a list of things NOT to eat which is carrion, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and what was dedicated to other than God. This makes sense in many ways since they are harmful for the body, and the food that has been sacrificed for other gods, has bad energy attached to it. You never know about the unseen world of spirits and what people evoke through ritual. We must always be careful.

There is a suggestion that those who constantly fight over the Book (Gospel and Torah), are in deep discord and can not hear anything while they fill themselves with anger and become blind with hatred for each other. Once again, as I type this I only envision a few leaders of each religion in this position. The ones who have sat at the high seats of power and have controlled what ultimately is taught to an illiterate society who can not read the scrolls themselves.

Righteousness expressed here is very important. I show this to everyone I can, to show it is not one faith, or even a religion you need to belong to, it is how well you follow these ideas: charity, orphan and children care, homeless care, freeing of slaves (not prisoners-there is a big difference during these times of war), belief in the angels, Books, words from the messengers, prayer, and hard work to do goodness on earth. This to me, is how all good people can connect together.

Along with being righteous, you must also be brave and not allow evil or injustice to expand. So war is prescribed in order to prevent further bloodshed. This is the battle cry of Muhammad and God and the angels are behind the good people, as they defend their homes and their lives, from the extremely angry Mecca leaders.

However, it is KEY to see that God is Merciful and says that you should stop all revolutions or wars, if they cease and come to their senses. But if they do not, then God says that self defense and defense of land is always allowed.

Lastly, there is a testament to a “will” law that developed. Gabriel is telling Muhammad that the wealth that the people make, you can not take with you in death as the Egyptians once believed, and to give to those who are your family and close relatives. Today we have this law, and it is wonderful so that the state does not claim your home or property once you die. This is the way your bloodline can survive and live on, even after you are long gone.

Surah Al-Baqarah: Chapter 2 (line 160-170) The Cow

160. Except those who repent, and reform, and proclaim. Those-I will accept their repentance. I am the Acceptor of Repentance, the Merciful.

161. But as for those who reject faith, and die rejecting-those-upon them is the curse of God, and of the angels, and of all humanity.

162. They will remain under it forever, and the torment will not be lightened for them, and they will not be reprieved.

163. Your God is one God. There is no god but He, the Benevolent, the Compassionate.

164. In the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of night and day; in the ships that sail the oceans for the benefit of mankind; in the water that God sends down from the sky, and revives the earth with it after it had died, and scatters in it all kinds of creatures; in the changing of the winds, and the clouds disposed between the sky and the earth; are signs for people who understand.

165. Yet among the people are those who take other than God as equals to Him. They love them as the love of God. But those who believe have greater love for God. If only the wrongdoers would realize, when they see the torment; that all power is God’s, and that God is severe in punishment.

166. Those who were followed will then disown those who followed them, and they will see the retribution, and ties between them will be severed.

167. Those who followed will say, “If only we can have another chance, we will disown them, as they disowned us.” Thus God will show them their deeds, as regrets to them, and they will not come out of the Fire.

168. O people! Eat of what is lawful and good on earth, and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. He is to you an open enemy.

169. He commands you to do evil and vice, and to say about God what you do not know.

170. And when it is said to them, “Follow what God has revealed,” they say, “We will follow what we found our ancestors following.” Even if their ancestors understood nothing, and were not guided?

My Interpretation:

The inspiring speech that Muhammad must courageously say to the Mecca leaders is still being given to Muhammad. At this point he is being told to let the leaders know that it is never too late to repent and change ways. They can simply submit to the laws of God to monotheism and there will never need to be wars.

Gabriel gives Muhammad the aspects of nature of God to show that the nature deities they may worship, is already a part of “Allah”, which is the Arabic name for the “One God”. So when you pray to Allah, you are indeed praying to the Creator of everything and no need to divide Him into aspects of His Self.

In one way, I believe this is the biggest crime of Paganism- to divide the ego into more pieces away from the whole of God. In Hinduism, many Hindus can worship one God as they see aspects of this one God in deity in form. There is a difference to worshipping many little gods, to honoring and devoting time to ONE.

This is why Muhammad is considered a prophet and a messenger, he was given the messages by an angel to give to the people, but he was also given insight into the future that other messengers where perhaps not given. Here he starts to see Hell as a place of separation these leaders will experience if they deny God’s Will on earth for monotheism.

It is described once again as a painful torment for them, and this pain will be experienced on a spiritual level.

There is a warning to not indulge in earthly pleasures and eat of things given and made good for them. As you know, the God of Abraham does not prescribe pig of any sorts, and possibly because it is not made good for human consumption as we learn so often in news stories. They are scavengers that roll in their own feces and mud. They are found to eat their own kind, and even the occasional farmer fallen into a pig pen (see news stories), and they are extremely dirty animals. Far more dirtier than grass grazing cows, sheep, or goat. God forbids the consumption of scavengers and carrion eaters, which devour other animals for their food. Eating their meat can cause disease in humans.

There is also the idea of committing one of the seven sins by self indulgence in what the earth provides-Gluttony. For me this is not about oppression of God, but healthy suggestion to not over indulge in food and drink. It’s about healthy balance.

And there is a warning that many should heed today: Just because your parents or grandparent practice one thing, does not make it right. You must always seek for the truth yourself. Remember Abraham’s father almost had him stoned for claiming monotheism. So do not follow your parent’s pathway of spirituality…always find your own.

Surah Al-Baqarah: Chapter 2 (line 150-160) The Cow

150. And wherever you come from, turn your face towards the Sacred Mosque. And wherever you may be, turn your faces towards it. So that the people may not have any argument against you-except those who do wrong among them. So do not fear them, but fear Me, that I may complete My blessings upon you, and that you may be guided.

151. Just as We sent to you a messenger from among you, who recites Our revelations to you, and purifies you, and teaches you the Book and wisdom, and teaches you what you did not know.

152. So remember Me, and I will remember you. And thank Me, and do not be ungrateful.

153. O you who believe! Seek help through patience and prayers. God is with the steadfast.

154. And do not say of those who are killed in the cause of God, “Dead.” Rather, they are alive, but you do not perceive.

155. We will certainly test you with some fear and hunger, and some loss of possessions and lives and crops. But give good news to the steadfast.

156. Those who, when a calamity afflicts them, say, “To God we belong, and to Him we will return.”

157. Upon these are blessings and mercy from their Lord. These are the guided ones.

158. Safa and Marwa are among the rites of God. Whoever makes the Pilgrimage to the House, or performs the Umrah, commits no error by circulating between them. Whoever volunteers good-God is Appreciative and Cognizant.

159. Those who suppress the proofs and the guidance We have revealed, after We have clarified them to humanity in the Scripture-those-God curses them, and the cursers curse them.

160. Except those who repent, and reform, and proclaim. Those-I will accept their repentance. I am the Acceptor of Repentance, the Merciful.

My Interpretation:

This is Gabriel saying to Muhammad these are the words he must speak for God to the people as the next chosen prophet in this historical time. He must remind the people that they are and will be slaughtered and oppressed by those in Mecca who hate to see their pagan religion system crumbling. But he gives them glad tidings, that there is no such thing as “death” for these brave souls who are killed by others. They are very much alive in the spiritual world that we can not see.

These lines read as an inspiring speech to start a revolution and to know that God is with them. The brave choices they make as righteous believers will not go unseen by God. All good acts are recorded and reflected upon.

There is also a curse put upon those who become the mortal enemies of God and the messengers, and their punishment for not listening to Muhammad, will not be light in the hereafter.

I see Hell as a state of being or conscious state you can end up in after death, if in life you denied Heaven and God. After all-we are the co-creators of our realities, and this extends to the afterlife as well.

Surah Al-Baqarah: Chapter 2 (line 140-150) The Cow

140. Or do you say that Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Patriarchs were Jews or Christians? Say, “Do you know better, or God?” And who does greater wrong than he who conceals a testimony he has from God? God is not unaware of what you do.

141. That was a community that has passed. To them is what they have earned, and to you is what you have earned. And you will not be questioned about what they used to do.

142. The ignorant among the people will say, “What has turned them away from the direction of prayer they once followed?” Say, “To God belong the East and the West. He guides whom He wills to a straight path.”

143. Thus We made you a moderate community, that you may be witnesses to humanity, and that the Messenger may be a witness to you. We only established the direction of prayer, which you once followed, that We may distinguish those who follow the Messenger from those who turn on their heels. It is indeed difficult, except for those whom God has guided. But God would never let your faith go to waste. God is Kind towards the people, Merciful.

144. We have seen your face turned towards the heaven. So We will turn you towards a direction that will satisfy you. So turn your face towards the Sacred Mosque. And wherever you may be, turn your faces towards it. Those who were given the Book know that it is the Truth from their Lord; and God is not unaware of what they do.

145. Even if you were to bring to those who were given the Book every proof, they would not follow your direction, nor are you to follow their direction, nor do they follow the direction of one another. And if you were to follow their desires, after the knowledge that has come to you, you would be in that case one of the wrongdoers.

146. Those to whom We have given the Book recognize it as they recognize their own children. But some of them conceal the truth while they know.

147. The truth is from your Lord, so do not be a skeptic.

148. To every community is a direction towards which it turns. Therefore, race towards goodness. Wherever you may be, God will bring you all together. God is capable of everything.

149. And wherever you come from, turn your face towards the Sacred Mosque. This is the truth from your Lord, and God is not heedless of what you do.

150. And wherever you come from, turn your face towards the Sacred Mosque. And wherever you may be, turn your faces towards it. So that the people may not have any argument against you-except those who do wrong among them. So do not fear them, but fear Me, that I may complete My blessings upon you, and that you may be guided.

My Interpretation:

Here is ultimate proof that Muhammad did not write this Quran. Because of the perspective it takes. Gabriel is telling Muhammad that only he is responsible for his self and his acts, and what the other prophets have done will not be part of his earnings. When people read this Quran they need to see that this is a glimpse into what Muhammad was told…it’s as if we are seeing a recoding of some sort. It shows moments in time and is written in a way that isn’t humanly possible. It is extremely hard to write in the perspective of telling yourself something that you will need to then tell to others.

Gabriel seems to be able to show Muhammad glimpses or visions of times in which certain individuals challenged the prophets of old. Perhaps at this point Gabriel is reading from the Book of Life where all thoughts and words are imprinted and can be referenced to again. Some spiritualists call this the “akashic  records” that is a sanskrit name that means “sky” that reference to another dimension where all records of time and events are held. Certain points in the Quran, I see this happening as if in the cave Muhammad is taken through time to show what has happened exactly in the past in order to prevent it in the future.

So here it is revealed to Muhammad that when the Gospel was written by chosen disciples of Jesus, like John, the Jewish elders or pharisees doubted it as the word of God. And there is a warning that as Muhammad turns his followers to pray towards the Kabbah under ONE God, then the pagans will ask what is going on as they see the pagan rituals rejected.

What I love about this is the idea that the angel then says, the West and the East, ALL directions belong to God. So it does not matter what land they lay claim on. God of Abraham is over all things. This is proof too, that the Quran was meant for all of mankind across every direction.

There is a great idea of community established here in these verses, one of all righteous people will be coming together, brought together by God through His Will for goodness to spread.

Surah Al-Baqarah: Chapter 2 (line 130-140) The Cow

130. Who would forsake the religion of Abraham, except he who fools himself? We chose him in this world, and in the Hereafter he will be among the righteous.

131. When his Lord said to him, “Submit!” He said, “I have submitted to the Lord of the Worlds.”

132. And Abraham exhorted his sons, and Jacob, “O my sons, God has chosen this religion for you, so do not die unless you have submitted.”

133. Or were you witnesses when death approached Jacob, and he said to his sons, “What will you worship after Me?” They said, “We will worship your God, and the God of your fathers, Abraham, Ishmael, and Isaac; One God; and to Him we submit.”

134. That was a community that has passed; for them is what they have earned, and for you is what you have earned; and you will not be questioned about what they used to do.

135. And they say, “Be Jews or Christians, and you will be guided.” Say, “Rather, the religion of Abraham, the Monotheist; he was not an idolater.”

136. Say, “We believe in God; and in what was revealed to us; and in what was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs; and in what was given to Moses and Jesus; and in what was given to the prophets-from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we surrender.”

137. If they believe in the same as you have believed in, then they have been guided. But if they turn away, then they are in schism. God will protect you against them; for He is the Hearer, the Knower.

138. God’s coloring. And who gives better coloring than God? “And we are devoted to Him.”

139. Say, “Do you argue with us about God, when He is our Lord and your Lord, and We have our works, and you have your works, and we are sincere to Him?”

140. Or do you say that Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Patriarchs were Jews or Christians? Say, “Do you know better, or God?” And who does greater wrong than he who conceals a testimony he has from God? God is not unaware of what you do.

My Interpretation:

Now we are getting deeper into the past, and showing how Islam is a call to revert back to the original religion of Abraham. Also as you can see, God includes Isaac and Ishmael as the righteous descendants of Abraham…so there you go. Jews and Muslims can end the debate forever. The brothers were equal in righteousness and considered as part of the bloodline of righteous believers.

Here Gabriel is saying Jews and Christians claim that the original religion is theirs. However historically, Abraham did not claim a name for the religion and instead it was a way of life of good deeds and monotheistic devotion. Islam is a way of life, and never was supposed to be a rigid religion and here we see this clearly.
